Anime Adaptations Boosting Source Material Sales
Some new-gen anime that debuted this year such as Frieren Beyond Journey’s End, The Apothecary Diaries, and Kaiju No.8 made a lasting impression among the fans. Thanks to their successful anime adaptations, the sales for these manga were boosted automatically. You can see that these franchises have moved to the top of Oricon’s manga sales ranking.
Last year’s winnerBlue Lock has slipped to the fifth position in sales, and it might drop in rankings next year due to the “unlikable” animation in Blue Lock Season 2. The Neo Egoist League arc in the manga is, however, exceptionally good and could save the manga sales from dipping. Moreover, the release of Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle (review) has also lifted its manga sales. Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia also concluded Deku’s story, so the manga maintained its rankings this year.
Finally, Kingdom and Spy x Family continued to maintain their reign in the top 10 manga rankings by switching places from last year.
I’m surprised to see last year’s winner Blue Lock lose its throne while the manga has been delivering great chapters consistently. Although I wanted to see One Piece at the top this year, Jujutsu Kaisen’s unreal stardom has helped the manga claim this year’s crown. Manga like Chainsaw Man and Oshi no Ko, which were in last year’s standing have dropped out of the top 10 this year.
