Tinder Introduces “Share My Date” to Boost Safety for First Dates

Apr. 22, 2024

Matching with someone on Tinder and going on a date with them is an exciting experience. But it can also give you those pre-date jitters as you prepare to meet a stranger for the first time. So it is best to let your friends and family know about your date plans just in case. You can now do it directly from the Tinder app, thanks to the newShare My Date feature.

Share My Datelets youshare your date plans and the profile of the personyou are going out with. You can also specify the location and time of your date and set it up thirty days in advance. These details can be shared with your family and loved ones via a link. If you have a change of plans, you can update the information accordingly.

Thesharedlinks will be viewable by anyoneeven if they don’t have the Tinder app installed on their phones. However, users with Tinder can view the entire profile of the person they are going out with but can’t message them. Users not on Tinder will only be able to view the person’s name, age, and photos. Do note that shared links expire after a time, probably after the day of the date.

According to Tinder, the idea for this new feature comes from the data where more than half of singles(51%) under 30 already let their friends know the detailsof their dates. And, as per new in-app polling data, one in five Tinder users (18%) share their date plans with their mom.

This feature will slowly get rolled out across the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, India, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand in the coming months.

This was a much-needed feature in terms of safety. Especially, given the uncertainty of the situation when meeting an unfamiliar person you met online. I would hope that other dating apps also adopt this feature for the safety and well-being of their users. What are your thoughts on this feature? Do you think you will use it?
