It has been mentioned that during the Void Century, there existed a Great Kingdom that was said to be far more exceptionally advanced and developed than the rest of the world. It was considered the most powerful nation in the entire realm of One Piece at that time.
As a result, every other nation considered it a serious threat. Their technology was far ahead of its time, and Dr. Vegapunk was able to reverse-engineer numerous inventions that existed during this century. In a nutshell, the world of One Piece had evolved, sadly backward from that period as no such technology can’t be seen anywhere now, except Egghead Island.

The Great War during the Void Century forever redefined the One Piece world, breaking it into multiple islands and making it look like what it is now. Dr. Vegapunk stated that the alliance of the 20 kingdoms considered Joy Boy and his faction as the primary threat,marking the start of the Great War. He further remarked that the war resulted from the clashing of different ideologies of the two groups.

With these mass-destructive weapons by their side, the alliance was able to defeat Joy Boy and the Great Kingdom. The Void Century period concluded right after Joy Boy and his motherland were vanquished, submerged at the bottom of the sea.
Due to the extensive employment of Ancient Weapons during the Void Century, there was a heavy price to pay. During those 100 years, the usage of ancient weapons resulted in astaggering 200-meter increase in sea levels.
In comparison, after the Lulusia Incident by the World Government, the sea levels rose by 1 meter. Now imagine the levels they must have gone to make the sea level rise by 200 meters! I still cannot fathom it to this day!
As a result of the massive rise in sea levels, most of the Void Century kingdoms started to submerge deep under the sea. After the alliance completely defeated Joy Boy and his faction, they began their reign with the birth of the World Government.
