Spoiler Warning:This article includes spoilers for One Piece chapter 1118, which expands on the powers of Jewelry Bonney.

Jewelry Bonney, one of the Eleven Supernovas, has grown to become a crucial figure in One Piece since the beginning of the Egghead arc. However, little did we know that her devil fruit abilities are going to evolve into what they have in this arc. Her power’s evolution is on full display in One Piece chapter 1118, and that’s what we are here to discuss.

Bonney has currently accomplished an enormous feat, becoming the second Nikabyunlocking her Gear 5 formusing her devil fruit powers. So, let’s learn how Bonney was able to unlock her freest form, which allowed her to become Nika in chapter 1118 of the One Piece manga.

Bonney’s Devil Fruit Powers Explained

Bonney’s Devil Fruit Powers Explained

Before we learn about Jewelry Bonney’s Nika transformation, you should know about the powers of herToshi Toshi no Mi(Age-Age)devil fruit. With the powers of this devil fruit, Bonney can easily change her age, the age of other human beings, and even objects at will.

However, the effects of Bonney’s devil fruit powers areonly temporaryand not permanent. For example – she transformed Luffy and Chopper into their older age versions during the start of the Egghead arc.

Moreover, this devil fruit’s greatest ability is calledDistortion Future. It allows its user to change into any form that could exist in the future (alternate realities). If it sounds so confusing, let me give you an example.

In one instance, Bonney used her ability to transform into a giant while another instance saw her turn into a child to save Zoro during the Saboady arc (one of thebest One Piece arcs). Just like the rest of her powers, she can pull off this ability only for a certain period.

Now that Bonney has seen the true form of Nika, i.e. Luffy in his Gear 5 form, she can imagine a complete version of Nika. During the fight against theFive Elders in One Piece, Luffy encouraged Bonney to use her powers to the fullest tobecome the freest version of herself. Thus, when Bonney gave it a shot, she asked for a future where she was completely free.Image Courtesy: @S7S_H (X)

This resulted in Bonney unlockingGear 5(as this ability is the peak of freedom) and achieving theNika form similar to Luffy. This made the fandom coin a new nickname for Bonnet –Joy Girl.

Indeed, Bonney’s devil fruit is overpowered, however, it has the limitation where these forms only last temporarily. The fandom has split into two sides once again with the new Gear 5. But I believe this is indeed a perfect move from Oda sensei to make Kuma and Bonney’s journey come full circle.
