Before you enter the world of Marvel’s new PVP hero shooter, you must be prepared. Apart from knowing characters and roles, one key thing to victory is understanding the game modes. Whether you are playing Iron Man or wielding the shield of Captain America, knowing the game mode helps you know the objectives to win a map. In this guide, we have explained all game modes of Marvel Rivals in detail so you’re better prepared.
Marvel Rivals Core Game Modes
While several game modes exist, including practice or customs, only three core game modes are available for quick and competitive matches. Below are all the core game modes you can find in Marvel Rivals:
Domination is one of the most common game modes in all of hero shooters. Call it King of the Hill in TF2 and Control in Overwatch 2 or Apex Legends; the objective remains the same. However, unlike the other games, youmust win 2 out of 3 setsin Marvel Rivals to get a victory.
The Domination game mode in Marvel Rivals is played on a mirrored map. Once the round starts, teams must capture a point in the center of the map. When both teams stand in the area, the capture progress will stop until one team is eliminated or moves outside.
Once a team captures a point, the score progresses by 1% for each 1.2 seconds. This will continue until the bar reaches 100% points. If the enemy team contests the area while a team is winning, the game will go to Overtime. Until a contesting team leaves, the Overtime bar will continue.
The Convoy game mode in Marvel Rivals is the classic Payload in Team Fortress 2 and Escort in Overwatch 2. Just like these game modes, here, you have one attacker team, and the other is defending. The defenders will have a timer that they can utilize to set up defenses. Defenders can also run to the spawn of attackers before the round starts.
After 30 seconds, the match starts as the attackers are released to capture a vehicle to escort it. The defenders can linger around the Convoy to re-capture it and roll backward. If the attackers have captured it and players are around, the Convoy will roll forward. Depending on the number of attackers, the speed will increase.
Keep in mind that theConvoy will stop if no attackers are around. Moreover, there are two checkpoints on the map that you will cross with the vehicle. Once the vehicle crosses those checkpoints, it will no longer roll back behind that point.
Although Convergence’s playstyle is similar to Convoy’s, the tale has a twist. In this game mode, the play area is divided intothree regions. The attacking team will have to progress with the Convoy to score points. Each region will be secured once you have scored 33%, 66%, and 100%, respectively.
Once you secure a post, as an attacking team, you can leave anytime, and the Convoy will not move behind. If you have played Hybrid in Overwatch 2, this is the familiar version in Marvel Rivals.
The Conquest mode is a separate game that is available through a separate playlist. This mode is not in the quick match or competitive mode. Conquest in Marvel Rivals is a standard team deathmatch. Unlike the Valorant TDM, you do not earn points through kills here. Instead of kill points, dead enemies will drop coins that you can collect for points.
Each coin becomes more valuable throughout the match. Once your team reaches the 50-point mark, you will win. You can also win the game by scoring more points than the enemies before the timer runs out. This is the perfect mode to test your favoriteMarvel Rivals characters.
