Despite being a bit older now, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains one of the best RPG games I have come across. And while PC and console gamers are enjoying it, the Nintendo Switch has been left out of the fray. If you’re a handheld user wondering if Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the Switch, keep reading as I tell you all about it.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Available on Nintendo Switch?
I won’t waste your time and break the bad news immediately. Unfortunately,Baldur’s Gate is not on the Nintendo Switch. When the game was announced for its 1.0 release, the only confirmed platforms were PC and PlayStation 5. PC is where it initially launched as an early access title.
As Baldur’s Gate 3 1.0 launch was coming near, PlayStation 5 was added to the release platform. Eventually, after a delay related to the couch co-op, the Xbox Series X/S version of Baldur’s Gate 3 also launched. However, from then onward, Larian Studios hasn’t made any announcements about Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Switch.
The most likely for this is the Nintendo Switch’s limited hardware capabilities. As such Larian Studios must not be willing to release a degraded version of the game just for the sake of it. But will it ever come to the Switch?
Based on existing information, there isalmost no chance of Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to the Nintendo Switch. As mentioned above, the sole reason is the Nintendo Switch hardware. Initially, producer David Walgravebelievedthe current generation of hardware wouldn’t be able to run the game. However, they pulled the miracle with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
In the case of Nintendo Switch, however, I don’t think any amount of voodoo magic will be able to run the popular RPG on the go. The reason is simple – theweak switch hardware. Baldur’s Gate 3 requires quite a beefy specification to run correctly on PCs. Consoles cut some corners to make the magic happen, but it runs reasonably well. In the case of Nintendo Switch, I don’t see the developers spending time to port the entire 150GB experience for the handheld.
Even if they did manage to run it, we have to expect many cut corners. Recently, Mortal Kombat 1 launched for Nintendo Switch. And the launch was, well, unpleasant. If a fighting game had a limited environment and only two characters on the screen struggled to look good, Baldur’s Gate 3 would probably fry the handheld.
While Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t available, Nintendo Switch gamers can still enjoy the classic DnD experience like Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment, and even Icewind Dale in its entirety. Even Larian’s previous entry, Divinity Original Sin 2, is also available on Nintendo Switch.
So, I hope that answers your burning question of whether Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the Switch. What do you think about this news? Let us know in the comments below!
