How to Install MIUI 10 Beta on Your Xiaomi Device

After much teasing, Xiaomi has finally launched MIUI 10 for its devices. Well, the MIUI 10 update has been one of the most awaited announcements, and it brings abouttons of new features and modifications. While the stable release is still a couple of months away, the company has made the Chinese Beta ROMs available for users to download. Well, if you’re someone who likes to stay on the bleeding edge of technology and would like to try what’s new with the latest version of MIUI, read on, as we show you how to install MIUI 10 Chinese Beta on your Xiaomi device:

Note:MIUI 10 Beta is currently available only for theMi 5, Mi 6, Mi Mix 2, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro.This article will be updated as and when more devices are added to the list. Additionally, you need to have your device’s bootloader unlocked, which can be done by followingthis link. Furthermore, you need to install Minimal ADB and Fastboot drivers on your PC, as shownhere.

  1. First up, you need todownload the TWRP custom recovery for your device.Depending upon your device, download the TWRP custom recovery “.img” file from the links given below:

  1. Now,download the MIUI 10 Beta ROM ZIP file to your devicefrom the links given below:

  1. Next up,switch off your phone and then press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down keysimultaneously. It will make the phone to boot up in Fastboot mode.

  2. Now we need to flash the TWRP Recovery on your device.Connect your device to your PC in fastboot mode.Now, open a Command Prompt or Powershell window andrun the following command:

For instance, I downloaded my TWRP image file to C: only. Hence, the command I executed was:

  1. After that,run the following commandto boot into the custom recovery:

  1. Once you’re into TWRP, go toWipe -> Format Data, and then type“yes”to proceed. Now that you’ve formatted your data, go toReboot -> Recovery.

  2. You will now once again boot into TWRP custom recovery. Here, go toWipe -> Advanced Wipe, andselect Dalvik / ART Cache, Cache, and System partitions. Thenswipe to format these partitions.

  3. Now connect your mobile to your PC and transfer the MIUI 10 ROM to your device. Then,tap on Installand navigate to theMIUI 10 ROM filethat you downloaded in the second step.

  4. Swipe the bar below toinstall the ROM. Once you’ve installed it, tap on“Wipe Cache/Dalvik”. After that, justreboot your device.

9.And that’s it. MIUI 10 is now installed on your Xiaomi device.

Well, that’s pretty much it. The process is quite easy and allows you to experience the goodness of MIUI 10. Based on Android Oreo, the new MIUI ROM brings forth a lot of features and under the hood advancements. That being said, do note that the ROM is still under Beta and is not recommended for use on a daily driver.
