Mar. 25, 2022

Adding life to the mostly calm waters in Minecraft, we have Axolotls. Introduced as a part of the Minecraft 1.17 update, Axolotls are cute yet dangerous creatures that torture the residents of the sea with their hostile behavior. But as theMinecraft 1.18 updatecame out, the Axolotls are almost nowhere to be seen. The developers have buried these beautiful mobs deep in the game. This time, quite literally. Unless you are looking at the right place, it can become impossible to find Axolotls in Minecraft after the recent update. But there’s no need to worry, as we are here to help. We have compiled a list of some of the best and easiest ways to find Axolotls in Minecraft. So, let’s not waste time and dive right in!

These methods work on bothMinecraft Java and Bedrock editions. We have divided our guide into separate sections for your ease, and you can use the table below to explore them at your convenience. So, all you need to do is sit back and take notes on where to find Axolotls in Minecraft.

Axolotls are semi-hostile aquatic mobs that can survive on both land and water, just likefrogs in Minecraft. They are passive towards the players and don’t attack them. But they arehostile against most aquatic mobs, except frogs, dolphins, turtles, and other axolotls.

Eachattack of an Axolotl does 4 health pointsworth of damage. Now, before we learn where to find Axolotls in Minecraft, let’s see what variants of this mob exist in the game.

In the wild or using spawn eggs, you can find up to five types of Axolotls in Minecraft:

These variations are only visual and color-based. Each type of Axolotl has the same abilities and health. Though, it’s worth noting that theblue Axolotls have a less than 1% chance of spawningin the breeding process.

If you are playing Minecraft 1.17 and its iterative updates, you can easily find Axolotls in warm ocean biomes. But such location makes them hard to capture, breed, and even find in normal circumstances. Although you can rely on thePotion of Water Breathing, there is no need to go that far anymore in Minecraft 1.18.

On Minecraft 1.18 and later, Axolots exclusively spawn in thelush caves biome. This is a plant-based cave biome that was introduced in the game as a part of the recent Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update. This biome is quite different from other cave-basedMinecraft biomes. And if you know where to look, it’s not that hard to come across Axolotls.

To find Axolotls in Minecraft, you first need to find lush caves in your world. These are temperate cave biomes that spawn in the overworld. Lush caves are fairly easy to come across while exploring cave openings and underground tunnels. But if you don’t want to step into caves just yet, you can also look for its signs above the ground. Lush caves almost always spawn belowazalea trees. These rare trees grow in the empty space above the lush caves, even when underwater.

Unfortunately, there’s no above-ground biome attached to them, but many players have found them in jungle and forest biomes. But if that feels like too much work, use one of ourbest Minecraft lush caves seeds. The linked guide also has the coordinates to the caves that you can use toteleport in Minecraft.

As per the Minecraft Wiki, Axolotls have a 100% chance of spawning in lush caves if they are large enough. But on the Bedrock edition, the Axolotl only has around a 10% chance of spawning, but they usuallyspawn in a group of 4-6 mobson both editions. With enough effort and a lush cave, it’s only a matter of time to find Axolotls in Minecraft.

You need to search for water that is at least two blocks deep. Even if an Axolotl isn’t in the water, it usually stays within 6-8 blocks of the water. So, make sure to look in and around the water source carefully. Sooner or later, you are bound to find a group of Axolotl.
