Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with Tensor Chip, 30W Fast-Charging Launched

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro Officially Launched

As Google confirmed earlier this year in its announcement preview, Google is dropping the XL moniker with Pixel 6 phones and will use ‘Pro’ branding for the bigger variant. As a result, we have Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in this year’s lineup of flagship Pixels.

Starting off with the design, the major visual difference is thepresence of a new camera barreminiscent of the classic Nexus 6P. The new camera bar houses the camera modules and the rear LED flash. With its distinct camera bar, you’ll have no trouble distinguishing the Pixel 6 from the myriad of Android phones out there.

At the front, Pixel 6 sports a flat display while the Pixel 6 Pro flaunts a curved display. Google has used apolished aluminum frameon the Pixel 6 Pro. The regular Pixel 6, on the other hand, will feature a matte aluminum finish. Google says both of these finishes feel great in hand, but we will have to test that out ourselves.

Coming to the display, Pixel 6 sports a6.4-inch FHD+ flat AMOLED displaywith a 90Hz adaptive refresh rate. Meanwhile, you’ll find a6.7-inch QHD+ curved AMOLED displaywith a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate on the 6 Pro. With the Pixel 6 Pro, you can enjoy all thetop 120Hz Android games, and they should run like a breeze.

AlthoughQualcomm isn’t happy, Google has switched toTensor chipwith the Pixel 6 series. Tensor isGoogle’s in-house SoC for Pixel phones. The Tensor chipset uses two Cortex-X1 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.25GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. According to Google, the Tensor chip offers up to 80% performance boost than the 7nm Snapdragon 765G found on the Pixel 5.

The Pixel 6 series also equips Titan M2 security chip to keep your personal data safe. With the Titan M2 chip, Google says Pixel 6 series has the most hardware security layers in any phone. Speaking of security,you finally get an in-display fingerprint scannerfor unlocking the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

As for RAM and storage, the Pixel 6 comes with 8GB RAM and 128/ 256GB storage variants. The Pixel 6 Pro comes equipped with 12GB of RAM and is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants. Other key specifications include 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Pixel 6 has aprimary 50MP f/1.85 Samsung GN1 sensorthat captures over 150 percent more light than the Pixel 5. That’s accompanied by a12MP f/2.2 Sony IMX386 wide-angle lens. Other than these sensors, Pixel 6 Pro will offer an additional 48MP f/3.5 Sony IMX586 telephoto lens capable of 4x optical zoom and 20x Super Res digital zoom.

For selfies, you get an 8MP selfie camera on the Pixel 6 and an 11.1 f/2.2 MP sensor on the 6 Pro with a 94-degree field-of-view. You can record up to 4K videos at up to 60 fps on Pixel 6 Pro’s rear camera and 4K videos at 30fps from the front camera. The non-Pro Pixel 6’s front camera video recording maxes out at 1080p at 30fps.

So, what do these sensors truly mean for the Pixel 6 series? Well, they unlock a bunch of cool new camera features here. The new camera features included in thePixel 6 series areFace Unblur, Magic Eraser, Motion mode, and improved Night Sight & Portrait mode. While Face Unblur attempts to deblur faces in images to make them sharper and usable,Magic Eraser helps you remove unwanted objectsand people from your image. Motion mode is a feature to add more depth to action shots involving moving subjects.

Apart from these,Night Sight now captures 150% more lightthan the Pixel 5. You also get improvements to Portrait mode that better detects different skin tones.

AlthoughGoogle released Android 12 on AOSPearlier this month, the company has nowstarted rolling outthe update to all compatible Pixel phones. That changes with the Pixel 6 launch as Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are thefirst to launch with Android 12 out of the box.

Google is promising three years of Android updates and five years of security updatesfor the Pixel 6 series. Since the device ships with Android 12, you could expect to receive updates up to Android 15 and two extra years of security patches if you’re planning to purchase the phone.

The Pixel 6 packs a 4,600 mAh battery, while you get a larger 5,000mAh battery pack on the 6 Pro. Both devices support 30W wired fast charging and 23W wireless charging. It’s worth mentioning that Google hasdecided not to include the charger in Pixel 6’s boxfollowing Apple’s lead.

Google has also launched the second-gen Pixel Stand today. Unlike its predecessor, the new Pixel Stand has an active cooling fan. You can choose between Performance and Quiet modes to adjust the fan’s speed. With the second-gen Pixel Stand, you can wirelessly charge Pixel 6 and 6 Pro at 23W and Pixel Buds at up to 3W.

Pixel 6 is priced at $599 for the base variant. If you are interested in the Pixel 6 Pro instead, it is available at a starting price of $899. The Pixel 6 series will make its way to three additional countries, including Spain, Italy, and Singapore, early next year. So yeah, as we had expected, Google’s latest flagship phones won’t be launched in India.
