After keeping the Ghost of Tsushima sequel project on the hush-hush for a long time, Sony unveiled it to the fans with a grandiose announcement trailer. Here is the official trailer of Ghost of Yotei:

Fans who were awaiting the comeback of our beloved Ghost, Jin Sakai, should put their expectations to rest as Sucker Punch has introduced a new female protagonist for their upcoming game. You will playAtsu(portrayed by Erika Ishii), another wandering ghost in Ghost of Yotei.

The answer to this is both a yes and a no. It sounds confusing, right? Let me explain! Ghost of Yotei isn’t a direct sequel to the Ghost of Tsushima. Instead, it is athematic continuationof the prequel and set in a different timeline and region as well. Therefore, you can consider Ghost of Yotei to be aprimary spin-off set in the same GOT universe.

This area was outside the rule of Japan, and filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.

Unfortunately, not too many details about Ghost of Yotei’s story are out. All we know for now is that Atsu, the main character is on a hunt for ‘something or someone.‘ Of course, with a dangerous hunt come dangerous consequences. As such, every Ronin is now after Atsu causing intense chaos. While not much besides this is out, rest assured, we will update you when it is.

In an interview withThe New York Times, the developers at Sucker Punch studio remarked about how they have addressed a con regarding open-world games. In their words:

One challenge that comes with making an open-world game is the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over again. We wanted to balance against that and find unique experiences.

As seen in the trailer, along with upgraded visuals, the gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima is getting a revamp with fresh new mechanics, the latest additions in combat such as the usage of firearms, a pet wolf who will keep you company, and many more.
